I am proud to be the Canadian Paralympic Committee’s new President as we enter into this incredible era of unprecedented support and awareness. This year’s Paralympic Congress truly illustrated the promise and potential of our organization, members, and potential as we prepare for London 2012. With a press conference to announce $5M in government funding, a first ever Canadian Paralympic Athlete Awards Ceremony, and more delegates actively engaged in preparing for our movement’s future than ever before, it was hard to not feel the sense of positive change and excitement. At the same time we need to recognize how blessed we are to have been left such a strong legacy and foundation built by too many to mention by name. We will not let you down.
With your help we will work to enhance podium performance at Paralympic Games, build a world-class Paralympic Sport system, create a sustainable business model, and expand the awareness of Paralympic sport and strengthen the Paralympic brand. I want to ensure that when we look back 15 years from now, we see this as a tipping point and know that we took full advantage of the many opportunities presented to us. Thank you for taking the time to read our newsletter and follow the Canadian Paralympic Committee as we work towards becoming the world’s leading Paralympic nation.
Dr. David Legg
