International Paralympic Committee 2012 Internships Announced

17 08 2011

The International Paralympic Committee (IPC), the global governing body of the Paralympic Movement, today (17 August) announced a unique opportunity for five individuals to work with them at the London 2012 Paralympic Games as specially selected Interns.

Available only to top students who undertake the Postgraduate Certificate in Sport Management (Paralympic Sport) during the next intake (commences late September 2011), the internships programme is offered through the IPC Academy partner, World Academy of Sport and is accredited by Royal Holloway, University of London.

In addition to working with the IPC throughout the London 2012 Paralympic Games period, the internships are structured to count towards the delegate's assessed work for the programme.

During 2012, and in the lead up to the Games, successful applicants will be required to undertake two, one week placements at the IPC's headquarters in Bonn, Germany where they will be inducted into their Games time function.

They will then be allocated a specific role within the IPC staff structure during Games time.

The programme of activity is part of the IPC's commitment to developing the Paralympic Movement through the work of the IPC Academy all the way from management, games operations, NPC development, technical officials, classifiers right through to athletes.

These programmes have been created to provide opportunities to ensure the long term sustainability of the Movement and these Internships are another example of such commitment to expanding the reach of the IPC.

Further information for the Postgraduate Certificate in Sport Management (Paralympic Sport) can be found at www.ipc-academy.org or through contacting the World Academy of Sport on +44 161 639 0950 or info@worldacademysport.com.
