Adam Dixon

Adam began playing sledge hockey in 2000 when he was just 11 years old with the Elmvale Bears.  Now at the age of 20, this resident of Barrie, Ontario is an integral member of the Canadian national team. He joined the team in 2006 and plays defence with great intensity and passion.   At the age of ten, Adam was diagnosed with Ewing’s sarcoma and had surgery to remove his right tibia, which was replaced with a donor bone, a metal plate, and multiple screws.  In 2004, Adam was featured in “Cancer Kids: Fighting and Winning,” a five-part television documentary about children surviving cancer.    Adam, or “Dixie” to his team mates, has a gold medal from the 2008 IPC Sledge Hockey World Championships where he was named the defensive MVP of the tournament.  He also has gold medals from both the 2008 and 2009 World Sledge Hockey Challenge.  Adam's most memorable moment is his goal medal winning shoot out goal against Team USA last March during a Hockey Canada Cup.  Over 1,800 fans were at the brand new UBC Thunderbird Arena in what was the first ever nationally televised sledge hockey game in Canada.   His favourite NHL team is the Montreal Canadiens.  In high school, Adam had the unique experience of living in Igloolik, Nunavut during a student exchange. Adam is currently enrolled at Georgian College studying electrical engineering.
