The Paralympic Equipment Fund (PEF) is designed to support grassroots and provincial organizations in increasing the number of athletes with a disability competing in Paralympic Sport by increasing the availability of introductory Paralympic sport equipment. Grants will be awarded to cover 50% of the total cost of the equipment per season (summer/winter), up to a maximum of $2,500 per applicant per season. The applicant is responsible for covering the other 50% of the total equipment costs. The PEF is made possible through financial contributions from Petro-Canada and the Canadian Paralympic Committee (CPC). The CPC is a not-for-profit charitable organization whose mission is to grow and promote the Paralympic Movement in Canada.
The allocation of funds will be awarded based on a two-tier system. Tier I refers to adaptive equipment used by the individual to participate in Paralympic sport (e.g. sit-ski or hockey sledge). Tier II refers to ancillary sport support equipment (e.g. gates or wireless timing system) and/or equipment research and development. Tier II equipment will only be funded if there are funds remaining after the allocation of grants for Tier I equipment.
The PEF 2009-10 will award a total of $50,000 in grants for both summer and winter sports.
