11 August 2008

MONTREAL (August 11, 2008) – The Feel the Rush Quebec Tour, which is aimed at getting more Canadians with a physical disability involved in sport, will be stopping on August 12 at Montreal’s Lucie Bruneau Rehabilitation Center and on August 14 at the MAB-MacKay Rehabilitation Center.

The goal of Feel the Rush, a grassroots public awareness campaign from the Canadian Paralympic Committee that is being delivered in Quebec with the help of Défi sportif, is to increase the number of Canadians with a disability who "feel the rush" of confidence and empowerment that comes with enjoying sport on a daily basis.

Attendees will have the chance to meet sitting volleyball player José Rebelo on Tuesday, August 12 and swimmer Brian Hill and wheelchair basketball player Yvon Rouillard on Thursday, August 14. The athletes will be speaking about their experience as Paralympians, their sports, and how sport played a major role in their personal development.

The goal of the Feel the Rush Quebec Tour is to promote the participation of Quebec athletes at the next Paralympic Games, running September 6-17 in Beijing, China. As part of the tour, Quebec’s Paralympic athletes will discuss their sporting experiences at various « barbecues » held across the province several weeks before their departure for China.

Other objectives include demonstrating that sport can be used in the rehabilitation of people who have been injured, and educating people in each of the regions about the resources available on adaptive sports. The August 12 event will be held at Lucie Bruneau Rehabilitation Center from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. The Lucie Bruneau center is located at 2275 Laurier Avenue East in Montreal. The August 14 event will take place from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the MAB-MacKay Rehabilitation Center, which is located at 3500 Décarie Blvd. in Montreal.
