Track and field competition at the Commonwealth Games came to an end today with two more medals added to the total bringing it to 16, the most since the 1994 Games which were held in Canada (Victoria, BC).
Carly Dockendorf of Port Moody, BC and Kelsie Hendry of Saskatoon, SK both won bronze in the women's pole vault with identical scores of 4.25 metres. In that same final Gabriella Duclos-Lasnier of Quebec City was 8th with 4.10 metres.
The women's 4x400 metre relay team of Amonn Nelson of Calgary, AB, Adrienne Power of Halifax, NS, Vicki Tolton of Smithers, BC and Carline Muir of Edmonton, AB finished in fourth place combining for a time of 3:30.20. Carline Muir had a great anchor leg run to pull the team into 4th place, nearly catching the bronze medal winning team of England.
Megan Wright of Edmonton, AB placed 8th in the 5000 metre final in 16:55.86.
The men's 4x100m relay team of Hank Palmer of Lasalle, QC, Seyi Smith of Ottawa, ON, Jared Connaughton of New Haven, PEI and Sam Effah of Calgary, AB crossed the finish line in 6th place but were later disqualified due to exchange violations.
