Selection Camp For 2011 Senior Men’s National Wheelchair Basketball Team In Toronto

(Toronto, ON) The top Canadian male wheelchair basketball players will be in Toronto, ON for the Senior Men’s selection camp January 24th to 29th, 2011.

TV/Photo Op:

Media are presented with an opportunity to see a glimpse of the on court skill and athleticism that make wheelchair basketball one of the premium draws at the Summer Paralympic Games.

Who:

Top male wheelchair basketball players from across Canada, including current Sr. National Team members and Toronto natives Adam Lancia, Abdi Dini and Brandon Wagner.

What:

Selection camp for the 2011 Sr. Men’s National Wheelchair Basketball Team

When:

Practice/Scrimmage open to the media Thursday January 27th from 3:00PM-4:30PM
Athletes/Coaches will be available for interviews from 4:30PM-5:00PM

Hershey Centre – Sport Zone

The selection camp, being held in conjunction with the Canadian Sport Centre Ontario, will help determine which athletes will represent Canada at a number of marquee international events in 2011 including the 2011 Parapan American Games in Guadalajara, Mexico, which is the qualification tournament for the 2012 Paralympic Games in London, England.

“The Canadian Sport Centre Ontario is pleased to once again have the opportunity to host the Senior Men’s Wheelchair Basketball team selection camp,” said Debbie Low, President and CEO of the Canadian Sport Centre Ontario. “We have a long standing relationship with Wheelchair Basketball Canada and we are excited to provide training support to the National Senior Men’s team as they prepare to reach the top of the podium at the upcoming 2012 Paralympic Games.”

The Senior Men’s National Team are the defending sliver medallists from the 2008 Beijing Paralympic Games. They won back-to-back Paralympic gold medals in 2000 and 2004 and have reached the podium at five of the last six consecutive World Championships dating back to 1990.
