(St. Catharines, ON) July 15, 2011 marks the start of the inaugural Women’s U25 World Wheelchair Basketball Championships and members of the media are invited to attend the opening ceremony to officially commence the historic tournament. Team Canada’s first game of the competition will immediately follow the ceremony, which begins at 6:40 p.m. in the Bob Davis Gymnasium at Brock University in St. Catharines, ON.

International Wheelchair Basketball Federation President Maureen Orchard, Niagara Falls MPP Kim Craitor, St. Catharines Mayor Brian McMullan and Brock University Athletic Director Robert Hilson will formally welcome the eight participating countries and officially declare the tournament to be underway.
Craitor and McMullan will then throw the basketball for the ceremonial tip-off of Team Canada’s first game of the tournament against South Africa.
The participating teams are Australia, Canada, Germany, Great Britain, Japan, Mexico, South Africa and the United States. The tournament runs July 15-21, 2011 at Brock University and tickets are on sale now through the official event website.

Wheelchair Basketball Championships is a milestone event in the ongoing growth
of wheelchair basketball around the globe and forges a legacy of unprecedented
