(Halifax, NS) – The Nova Scotia wheelchair basketball team
defeated British Columbia 65-52 Thursday to clinch 5th place – their
best-ever finish at the Canada Games.They will play their final game of the tournament against
New Brunswick today at3:00PM (ATL). Nova Scotia finished 8th at the 1995 Canada
Games, but did not participate in the 1999, 2003, or 2007 tournaments. James Peake scored a game-high 22 points and 12 rebounds in
the victory. Abby Stubbert (photo attached) scored 20 points, 9 rebounds, and
10 assists (just one rebound shy of a triple-triple). Chris Wade led all
players with 19 rebounds and added 17 points.
“This is a huge deal for us and I am extremely proud of the
way we played. We notonly improved on our previous Canada Games record, but to
also on our record at the seeding tournament coming in, which is fantastic. It
is a testament to how hard the players worked to build this team and compete at
this level,” said Nova Scotia Assistant Coach Christina Swett. The gold medal match will feature the two-time defending
champions from Quebec taking on their Eastern Canada rival Ontario today at
7:00PM (ATL). The bronze medal match between Manitoba and Saskatchewan
will take place at 5:00PM (ATL).
