SOLLEFTEA, Swe.—Canada’s Mark Arendz continued his dream season by winning a silver medal at the IPCWorld Cup in Solleftea, Sweden on Friday.
The 20-year-old Arendz, who won captured his second World Cup victory earlier this week, finished second in the men’s 12.5-kilometre event.
“I’m definitely happy, but learned a lot today on not getting too complacent andmaking sure I maintain my focus,” said Arendz, who missed two of 20 shots. “My skis have felt like rockets and I’m it has been going good.”
Arendz, of Springton, P.E.I. has racked up two gold, two silver and two bronze medals during the 2010-11 season. He also has two bronze medals from the 2010 campaign under his belt to bring his career-total to seven.
“I think it is four years of hard work finally starting to pay off,” added Arendz, who has been training with Canada’s national development biathlon squad in Canmore, Alta., including Scott Gow who set a Canada Winter Games record on Friday as the first athlete ever to win four gold medals.
“Training with those guys has been extremely valuable for me. We all push each other each day and I have learned so much from being around them,” said Arendz.
Jody Barber, of Smithers, B.C., was the only other Canadian to hit the start line and finished fifth in the women’s standing race.
