OTTAWA – Day seven of IPC Worlds saw Canada come away with a trio of medals bringing the total to 9.  Michelle Stilwell of Nanoose Bay, BC and Diane Roy of Sherbrooke, QC both won silver with Braedon Dolfo of Langley, BC coming away with a bronze.

Leading things off was Stilwell in the T52 classification wheelchair 800-metres capturing silver in 2 minutes 30.90 seconds. This was Stilwell’s fourth medal of these championships having earlier won gold in the 100, 200 and 400-metres.

Diane Roy won her second medal of the championships by placing second in the T54 wheelchair 1500-metres. Roy crossed the line in 3:36.32; her first medal came in the 800-metres where she took the bronze.  Day seven also saw Diane qualify for the 400-metre final which will take place today at 10:55 in Christchurch (4:55pm eastern).

Braedon Dolfo brought home bronze in the F12/13 visually impaired high jump. His best jump of 1.83 metres was good for the bronze medal and also set a new Canadian record.

Petersburg, ON’s Leah Robinson finished fourth in her T37 400-metres heat; her time of 1:18.94 qualified her for the final set for 11:35 local time today (5:35pm eastern).

The Dunkerley brothers, Jason and Jon of Ottawa, ON along with their guide runners Greg Dailey of Toronto, ON and Sean Young of Ennismore, ON qualified in the T11 visually impaired 800-metres. Both will have a chance to stand on the podium together with the final taking place today at 18:31 local time (12:31am eastern).

Ozzie Sawicki, Canadian Head Coach in Christchurch; “Today was a positive day for Canada with Michelle Stilwell capturing silver in a closely contested race with American Keri Morgan.  Diane Roy followed her teammate with silver following a chair mishap which left her short of the top podium spot in the T54 1500-metres. The surprise of the day was the new Canadian record set by Braedon Dolfo, an up and coming talent who we expect will continue moving up the world ranks. The day closed with brother duo Jason and Jon Dunkerley qualifying for the T11 800-metres final. We certainly expect to see more solid performances as the championships wind down.”

Also in action today will be Toronto, ON’s Martha Gustafson in the F51/52/53 discus taking to the field at 9:30 local (3:30pm eastern).
