Archers Capture Gold & Silver at 2011 Parapan American Games

23 November 2011

A small, strong team of three archers represented Canada at the recent Parapan American Games in Guadalajara, Mexico. Kevin Evans (Jaffray, BC) and Bob Hudson (Leoville, SK) each defeated strong opponents from the USA to advance to and face-off against one another in the gold match in the Men’s Open Compound category. Evans stood atop the podium while Hudson brought home the silver medal. Rounding out the Canadian Team was Lyne Tremblay (Magog, QC), a 2008 Paralympian. Although she finished out of the medals, Tremblay had a strong
performance and in the process secured a quota spot for Canada in the Women’s
Recurve Bow ARW2 category at the 2012 Paralympic Games.

In capturing the gold, Evans secured an additional quota spot for Canada in the Men’s
Open Compound category, at the 2012 Paralympic Games. Evans is a two-time World
Champion, having struck gold in the Men’s Open Compound Bow category at the 2007
and 2009 Para-Archery World Championships. In addition to his World Champion titles,
Evans is the holder of two World records in his category.

Hudson’s silver medal performance capped off a successful 2011 season, following a
season-ending injury in 2010. At the Stoke Open held this September in Stoke
Mandeville, England, Hudson had a season’s best score and placement (4th place) and
thereby secured a 2012 Paralympic Games quota spot for Canada in the Men’s Open
Compound category.

“I’m really pleased and excited about winning the gold”, said Evans. “It’s been a bit of a rough season with some untimely injuries but things are definitely looking up. Standing on the podium along with Bob was a great feeling. Canada’s results here are a real confidence booster leading into next year’s Paralympics.”
