Paralympian Andrea Holmes, ambassador for the new program, was present for the launch at Mt. Lehman Elementary School in Abbotsford, BC, where the BCEMB is headquartered. Under this education and community outreach program, Ms. Holmes will tour elementary schools throughout British Columbia, telling her remarkable story and drawing attention to how athletes and the public can help stay healthy by eating right.
“A proper diet is critical for athletic performance,” explains Ms. Holmes. “BC Fresh Eggs are ideal fuel for world class athletes as they train and compete on the world stage, but they also serve as a naturally wholesome choice for all families across the province.”
Ms. Holmes is a decorated Paralympic athlete who finished eighth in long jump at the Athens 2004 Paralympic Games, and was four-time Canadian Paralympic champion in long jump and three-time Canadian champion in the 100 m.
Henry Storgaard, CEO for the CPC, sees the partnership as an excellent fit because the CPC and the BCEMB share a common commitment to performance excellence.
“We are excited to be partnering with the BCEMB to promote the importance of nutrition and physical activity,” said Mr. Storgaard. “We hope this program will illustrate the level of commitment to healthy living required by Paralympians and inspire children to develop healthy views around both sport and healthy eating that will last a lifetime.”
BCEMB Chair, Richard King, added, “BC egg farmers are proud to provide BC communities with fresh eggs. We see this reflected in Canada’s many talented Paralympic athletes as they give their best to their sport. We look forward to bringing this message of personal bests to young children to inspire them to make healthy choices.”
