CPC welcomes new Minister for Sport

Michael Chong, Ontario MP, appointed by the right honourable Stephen Harper

Ottawa, February 6th, 2006 – The Canadian Paralympic Committee congratulates Michael Chong on his appointment today as President of the Queen's Privy Council and Minister of Intergovernmental Affairs and Minister for Sport.

 

“We look forward to working with the Honourable Minister Chong on various sport issues in Canada, particularly regarding the Paralympic Movement.” comments Henry Wohler, President of the CPC. “It is satisfying to know the Conservative Party of Canada has committed to investing a minimum of 1% of the Healthcare budget on physical activity including amateur sport.”

Canada will compete at the IX Paralympic Winter Games held in Torino, Italy, March 10th to 19th. In total, 35 athletes will wear the maple leaf competing for top honours against athletes from 40 countries in four sports : Sledge hockey, Wheelchair curling, Alpine skiing and Nordic skiing.
