CPC invites media to apply for accreditation to cover the 2007 Parapanamerican Games

OTTAWA, June 19 – The Canadian Paralympic Committee (CPC) is accepting media accreditation applications from Canadian print and Internet media for the 2007 Parapanamerican Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The Rio Parapanamerican Games run from August 12-19, 2007.

 

All applications must be received by Friday, June 29, 2007. This is the only process for Canadian print and Internet media to apply for accreditation. The categories for accreditation for the 2007 Parapanamerican Games are as follows: “E” Journalist and “EP” Photographer.

The estimated Canadian delegation size to the Parapanamerican Games is 100 to 110 athletes along with 55 to 65 support staff, including coaches, managers and technical and medical personnel. The CPC is working with its member National Sports Organizations in supporting the Canadian team.

A total of about 1,300 athletes from 26 countries are expected to compete.

Rio represents the first time the Parapanamerican Games will take place in the same city and use the same venues and organizational standards as the Panamerican Games.

Canada will be participating in eight of ten sports on the Parapanamerican Games program. The wheelchair basketball competition (men’s and women’s) is the direct qualifier for the upcoming Beijing 2008 Paralympic Games, the premiere sporting event for athletes with a physical disability. In addition, Canadian athletes in the vast majority of other sports will also be pursuing Beijing qualification standards in Rio.
