To be held at British Columbia’s Museum of Anthropology from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m., the event is a fundraiser for sport for Canadians with a physical disability at the grassroots level.
The Canadian Paralympic Dreams Event features gourmet food and drink, a string quartet and an auction. Auction items include a one-of-a-kind, eight-foot totem pole specially created for the winning bidder by world-renowned artist and carver Michael Dangeli (Goothl Ts’imilx), of the Nisga’a, Tlingit and Tsimshian Nations. Dangeli has also crafted and donated a face mask and an original painting for auction. All attendees will receive a limited-edition, signed print of the painting.
Guests will also be treated to an exclusive tour of the museum, and a performance by the Git Hayetsk Dancers.
Other items up for auction are two VIP packages to the Beijing 2008 Paralympic Games, including round-trip airfare, five-star accommodation, Games tickets, local transportation and a guide; two spots on the Paralympic torch relay that comes to Vancouver in August 2008; the chance to ski, curl or play sledge hockey with Paralympic athletes at Paralympic 2010 Games venues; two sets of Paralympic clothing for the Beijing Games; guided tours of the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic sites; a Wayne Gretzky autographed jersey; and two executive class round-trip tickets to London, England with a week at a four-star hotel there.
The Canadian Paralympic Dreams Event is being hosted by event honourary co-chairs UBC President and Vice-Chancellor Stephen Toope and Davis LLP Partner Frank Borowicz. It will be the only dedicated Paralympic fundraising event in British Colombia in 2008. Tickets are $250 each.
