Karen Blachford

Karen is a very dedicated athlete and puts 110% into her training and competition. In addition of refereeing minor hockey, she coaches a sledge hockey team. Other sports she’s involved in include golf and baseball. In 2001, she was initiated to wheelchair curling and since, she considers her team as a family. Karen took part at the 2002 Wheelchair Curling Championships in Switzerland.
Karen, who suffers from multiple sclerosis, has been in a wheelchair since 1992. Karen is the only ice hockey official in Canada who referees from a sledge.
Karen works as a certified fitness consultant. Her love for sports pushed her to study health and fitness sciences at London’s Fanshawe College, where she received help and support from her colleagues and professors. Karen likes to help disabled people find a way to get active.
